Bethany’s relatable videos, fun sense of humor, and eye for fashion have enabled her to become a YouTube sensation and one of the most popular beauty and fashion influencers. She has also collaborated with Aéropostale to create her own line of clothing, released a single, appeared on Season 19 of Dancing with the Stars, and has even released her own book. Why did you start your youtube channel?
I uploaded my first video at the age of 13. It was a time when I was bullied and felt very lonely. At the time, I was being bullied by a few people to who I used to be very close. I felt very alone and unmotivated. After discovering the beauty community I decided it would be a great way to express myself and use it as an outlet to be who I am.
How has YouTube benefitted the beauty industry?
YouTube has provided a platform for consumers to get real views from real girls. People are able to watch how products work for everyday girls instead of receiving a commercial opinion. Youtube has also enabled people to connect with each other through the comment section and engage with different influencers while learning about their cultures.
What does it mean to be a #beautyboss?
To me, a #beautyboss is someone who is experimenting, building brands, and creating their own community doing what they love. Whether that is a cool Instagram page, or creating a community of beauty, or fashion, it is their own initiative.
How do you differentiate from different influencers and how did you create this #motafam?
I try to think of ways to make something of my own. I am always brainstorming new ideas and thinking of ways I can shoot differently or present an idea in a different manner. This is how I try and stay unique and hope my work resonates with my viewers.
