Ericka Rodriguez : Axiology

Axiology, founded by the inspiring Ericka Rodriguez,  is a vegan free and cruelty free luxury lipstick line.  Her passion took her to Bali where she studied the natural ingredients for the lipsticks and sustainable packaging options. With over 15 lipstick shades, this beauty company is paving its way through the green makeup industry. Read on to find out more:

When and why did you start your own line of vegan makeup lipsticks?

I had done some research about animal testing in the cosmetics industry in the United States, and I was honestly horrified. So many cosmetics are personal care products are not cruelty-free. So, I dedicated myself to finding and supporting companies that were both cruelty-free and vegan. However, many of those companies are not natural, and their products include ingredients that you can’t even pronounce. It’s important to me to take the same care in choosing products for my face as I do with the foods that I eat.

Unfortunately, my search for cruelty-free, vegan, and natural beauty brands really came up short. At the time, I didn’t find a brand that spoke to me and my age group. I also didn’t like the performance of most of the vegan, natural cosmetics on the market. For example, I would try a vegan lipstick and it would make my lips feel tight and dry.

So I just started playing around with formulations in my own kitchen just for fun. About six months to a year later I realized that this was what I had been searching for in terms of building my own business. I became serious about the idea and started building out a business model for Axiology.

What is so special about Axiology?

Axiology is a brand that aims to be ethical in all that we do. We make high-performing products and still maintain our dedication to animal welfare, veganism, and eco-friendly packaging.

What inspired the name Axiology and do you plan on expanding from selling just lipsticks?

Axiology is the philosophy of ethics and aesthetics.

Yes, we plan to expand in the near future. Look out for something special 2018.

What is it like running a green makeup business, in particular, and where do you see the future of this industry?

This is a great industry to be apart of. I am surrounded by other business owners (mostly all women) who support each other and are willing to help.

This industry will just keep growing as more and more people are realizing that what you put on your skin matters to your health.
