Evelyn Subramaniam: BIJA Essence

Bija Essence was started through Evelyn Subramaniam’s personal journey. When Evelyn was welcomed into her husband’s Southern Indian family she discovered the power of Ayurveda. She created Bija Essence as a way to share the products she uses every day—anti-aging plant oils infused with proprietary blends of the highest-grade essential oils, selected to balance and support areas of vulnerability. Read on more to find about Evelyn and her 100% natural brand:

Can you tell us a bit more about yourself and why you started Bija Essence?

Bija was born on a personal journey. I was born in Mexico, where I spent all summers and winters on our family farm. I watched my grandmother, mother and aunts use traditional plants, herbs, and flowers to beautify and heal, without fully understanding why. When I got older, I traveled the globe as a model and broadcaster and I tried every of-the-moment product out there—cosmetic, nutritional, and supplement-based—to support my vitality, skin, and mood, often swayed by big promises and fancy packaging, yet unaware of the hazardous ingredients these things often contained.

When I married and became a mother, I was welcomed into my husband’s Southern Indian family. My mother-in-law passed down traditions of touch, massaging my infant children’s tiny feet with oil freshly harvested from the groves to soothe and nurture them naturally. This was the beginning of my voyage of discovery into the ancient art and science of applying pure and unadulterated therapeutic oils to the body. It’s where I learned to create a daily ritual of clean, safe well-being for my family and myself that I learned from studying and learning Ayurveda. Ayurveda taught me to work with nature to support and balance my health just like my family and ancestors had been doing.

I created Bija Essence to share the products I use every day—anti-aging plant oils infused with proprietary blends of the highest-grade essential oils, selected to balance and support areas of vulnerability. Therefore, #RISE- supports and boosts the immune system. #Revive – soothes soreness and inflammation. #REJOICE- helps to firm and tone the skin. #Rest – helps to soothe and calm the mind and body. All this is without any chemicals, toxins, or harmful ingredients. My goal is to encourage the Power of Touch using BIJA ESSENCE body oils and share family traditions and Ayurvedic science with all. BIJA ESSENCE helps to balance your body and mind.

Can you tell us about the toxin-free ingredients used in your products?

BIJA ESSENCE is proud to be a toxin, chemical, paraben, free. In fact, it’s free of any harmful ingredients. All 4 formulations are an elixir of premium essential oils and anti- oxidant-rich base oils. The only preservative used is vitamin E.

How do you manage your time between your family and your business?

Life is about balance and maintaining equilibrium- I learned in Ayurveda studies. I have teenage children that go to school full time and have after-school activities so I have many hours to put into work while they are occupied. I make breakfast every AM and strive be home when they return to support them in any area they need me in. Family vacation time is the best, we visit family across the world or go on family adventures. Otherwise, we are all working on our passions and desires.

Where can we find your products? How are you looking to expand?

Although we launched a few months ago, I am happy that you can find BIJA ESSENCE in high-end hotels, spas, boutiques, online retailers, and on our website. Some are:

  • Park Hyatt Hotel, NY Exhale Spa, NY
  • Serenella, Boston
