Mark Sejvar: Brushopolis

After spending so many years at Aveda, Mark noted a recurring trend. People were purchasing hair products of low quality. He recognized the need or personalized hairbrushes. Mark and his partner, in life and business, Anne, went on to acquire Monroe and created Brushopolis, the future of hair brushes. Read on more to find out about their journey:

Can you tell us a bit more about yourself and why you start Brushopolis?

Wow! I actually started out in television as a reporter before moving into marketing and beauty where I have worked most of my career.

I spent many years at AVEDA with Horst Rechelbacher and with Mr. Vidal Sassoon and met so many people getting great haircuts and purchasing quality products designed for their hair type…. then they went home and used a low-quality hairbrush that damaged their hair, was hard on their wrist and did nothing to recreate their salon-level blow dried hair. I recognized the need for personalized hairbrushes designed specifically for hair type, texture and desired length. I am now the Mayor of BRUSHOPOLIS because I am all about sharing the good news and great personalized brush solutions!

After helping launch the original Monroe Hourglass Brushes, my partner, in life and business, Anne and I acquired Monroe and created BRUSHOPOLIS, the perfect destination for brushes. We really think of it as a city where we are disrupting the cycle of bad hair days with personalized hairbrushes. When you are in BRUSHOPOLIS, you and your hair live in perfect harmony. You use our Prep-Style-Finish system that provides healthy, shiny hair and gets you out the door faster. When you have more great hair days you have more confidence, and we believe everyone deserves more of that.

What differentiates your brushes from other hairbrush brands?

We make personalized brushes for different hair types. Whether you have fine, curly or course hair, and want to volumize, straighten, add waves or tease, we have your brush.  We have a wide range of different high-performance brushes.

From our Etiquette brush that builds volume for fine to medium hair, to our patent-pending Latina Envy brush with an oval barrel that provides tension and control for medium to coarse hair, our brushes are unique because they’re engineered for high-performance and to withstand the salon environment with features including:

  • Hourglass Shape. This mirrors the shape of the scalp and creates even tension. You get a better grip of the hair strands and more efficient contact with the roots of the hair that no other brush can accomplish!
  • Quality first-cut boar bristle is gentle on hair, distributes the natural oils and product from scalp to ends, and smooths the cuticle for added shine and softness.
  • The natural bristle wicks away moisture faster and our hourglass shape barrel provides maximum hair-to-air ratio for your blow-dryer. Our exclusive PolyDynamic High Heat Retention Core™ heats up to a perfect no-burn-zone temperature and holds the heat for creating multiple styling effects.
  • No need to wind it. You have to wind other round brushes because the hair falls off the bristle area. Since our hourglass shape retains the hair, you simply load, lock and pull, so you don’t have to overwork your wrist and your elbow-shoulder extension.
  • Helps to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome. The brush does most of the work, your effort is minimal and since you don’t wind the brush at all, you don’t cause damage to your wrist.

We are honored that our brushes are the go-to tool for celeb stylists. Many of our brushes were used by pro stylists only, and now we make them available to everyone.

Many of our customers tell us they own Dyson dyers and that our brushes pair perfectly with this tool to create their ideal look.

How are you accelerating? What does the future look like?

We just launched our new Brushopolis Utopia Daily Brushing+ Scalp Health brush that is our first brush for men, women and kids everyday use. It has an ergonomic design that pushes the boundaries of injection molding technology. It feels great in the hand and the high-quality materials and construction mean it will practically last a lifetime with proper care.

We have a patent pending on our oval, hourglass brush. It’s designed to provide great control and styling options during your blow-dry. It’s like two brushes in one. Although we love people visiting and shopping our website, we’re doing great on Amazon and Costco.com which really gives us great reach for our unique products. Our main goal is to educate people about the importance of having the right hairbrush for their particular hair and hair goals. We see a bright future where an investment in a high-quality, high-performance hairbrush will be as easy for customers to justify as a good haircut, a powerful blow-dryer and quality styling products!
